About Emer

Emer Aspel is a self-taught artist and a native of Waterford. She paints from her home-studio in Ballygunnercastle, near Waterford city. With an MSc. in Biotechnology, she spent twenty years working in the pharmaceutical industry and in management consultancy before committing herself to painting full-time a couple of years ago.

Throughout her life Emer always loved painting, working mainly in oils on either cotton or linen canvas. She’s especially fascinated by Irish skies and how they constantly change throughout the day, altering the tone and colours of the landscape. Her paintings capture the essence and mood of local sceneries, sometimes in an abstract way but always with a touch of reality and reflecting the beauty and wonder of the natural environment.

Emer has successfully exhibited her work locally over the last few years including at the Coach House Café on the Waterford Greenway, ‘Art on the Island’ Exhibition at Waterford Castle, Bébhínn’s at 129 The Quay and at Breakwater Gift Shop in Dunmore East.
